  • Shore HouseShore HouseJ.W. Shore, a prominent carpenter, carriage maker, and farmer, built this house around 1842. It is one of the oldest homes in Ashton. Shore’s family resided here for over 100 years.
  • Christ ChurchChrist ChurchBuilt in 1845, Christ Church Ashton (also known as the English Church) housed the region’s first Anglican congregation. It remained in use until 1915, when the “new” Christ Church was built down the road.
  • PresbyterianPresbyterian ChurchThe Melville Presbyterian church was built in 1844 and enlarged/renovated in 1879. Services were conducted here until 1940. The building is now a private residence.
  • Carriage ShopCarriage ShopSituated on the Robertson property, this carriage shop dates from the 1850's and was used by several blacksmiths well into the 1930's.
  • General StoreGeneral StoreAshton's general store was opened by John Sumner in 1841. A post office was opened on-site ten years later, one of the first in the rural British colonies. The store was rebuilt in 1879, and again in 1908.
  • Herron HouseHerron HouseThis Classical Revival-style stone house on the McCaffrey Trail was built between 1839 and 1844 by Thomas and Nancy Currie.
  • St. Stephen'sSt. Stephen'sBuilt in 1886, St. Stephen's Anglican Church replaced the Orange Hall on the 4th Concession as a meeting place for local Anglicans. It currently serves as the Munster Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.
  • Cheese FactoryCheese FactoryThe 4th Line (or Pure Gold) Cheese Factory was built in 1906. The building’s design demonstrates architectural features typical of its era, such as the diamond-shaped windows so common to cheese factories.
  • Anderson'sAnderson FarmThe Anderson Farm, built in 1837, is located at the corner of Franktown and Dwyer Hill Road. It was recognized as a Century Farm in 1967, having remained in the same family since Confederation.
  • Reilly FarmReilly FarmBlacksmith Thomas Reilly opened a shop here in 1845. He received this property as a Crown Grant. The shop was operated by various Reilly descendents over the next hundred years.
  • Maguire'sMaguire'sMaguire house is likely one of the oldest homes in Goulbourn, having been built of squared logs around 1830. Constantine Maguire was one of Richmond's earliest settlers.
  • TavernKemp's TavernThis plot of land was purchased by William Kemp in 1828. In 1840, his widow opened a tavern, which served as the meeting place for the Carleton Blazers militia unit. The present Gothic Revival building was constructed for John Kemp, William’s son, in 1868. Since the sale of the property in 1910, it has served as a dairy farm, a religious retreat, and currently as a restaurant.
  • BarbershopDallaire's BarbershopJoe Dallaire moved to Richmond in 1914 and set up shop in a local harness maker's rear kitchen. He later rented a building on the site, and rebuilt the shop when it burned in 1916. The shop served five generations of Richmond residents.
  • Brown's StoreGeorge Brown's StoreBuilt in 1863, George Brown’s store served as a Bank of Ottawa in the early 1900s, and as a Bank of Nova Scotia in 1928. The building has long been a Loyal Orange Lodge meeting place.
  • Green's HotelGreen's HotelThis building was constructed in 1890 for William Dennison, who later sold it to James Butler of Hazeldean. The Butler’s left their hotel in 1900, after their daughter was killed on the adjacent train tracks. The hotel was sold to George Green.
  • Hobbs' HouseHobbs' HouseRobert Hill was believed to have built this home as early as 1847, the property being originally deeded to his father James. The property was sold to Arthur Hobbs in 1916, whose family resided there until 1973.
  • Henry McElroyHenry McElroyThis structure was built in 1855 for Henry McElroy as a store and residence. The store remained in the McElroy family until 1921, when it was purchased by the Lewis brothers. It later housed the Ashton Furniture Workshop, which was destroyed by fire in 1994.
  • Stewart'sNeil Stewart's HouseNeil Stewart, a farmer and former Reeve of Goulbourn, built his home on 100 acres of land off Flewellyn Road in 1845. The home was constructed of log and later resurfaced in brick. Stewart resided there until his death around 1945.
  • St. Paul'sSt. Paul'sSt. Paul's United Church was built in 1901, after the original structure burned the year before. A Methodist Church prior to Church Union in 1925, this congregation was founded in the 1820's.
  • S.S. #7S.S. #7The land for this school was purchased from Christ Church. The structure was built in 1925 to replace Ashton's earlier school, which burned the year before.
  • Town HallTown HallBuilt in 1873 to replace the original Township Hall which had burned the previous year. This wooden structure was clad in cement block from Jonathan Stanley’s cement factory in the mid 1920s. This building currently houses the Goulbourn Museum.
  • Patrick McElroyPatrick McElroyHenry’s brother Patrick opened a store in 1843. This clapboard wood frame building still stands on the corner of Strachan and McBean Street, opposite George Brown’s store. It is nearly identical in design to Henry’s store, which burned in 1994.
